Vibes are important: Branding

In the summer of 2019 I had a series of facilitated dreams which changed my life. I understood part of my life’s purpose was to be a healer. Thank goodness, because I was already 7 semesters and $120,000 USD in educational debt.

To be a healer was modeled to me via visualizations of a large oak tree that expressed a fresh understanding of what being grounded really means. The deeper our roots are, the more we can grow.

This is not a new analogy applied to healthcare (there’s actually another ROOTS Physical Therapy somewhere in North Carolina). But as soon as I woke up, I knew it would also act as my North Star.

A year later I moved to Mexico, and ROOTS was born. There are a lot more details between the first and last part of that sentence, but for brevity let’s keep going.

I sat down at my computer in the early spring of 2021, opened up Canva to a blank square, picked out a circle, some ClipArt of a tree, and rolled with it. That’s been my logo since (but I kinda hate it).

ROOTS was only a half baked dream. But when I saw what it grew into and the logo representing allllll of this - the vibes were clearly off. The tree doesn’t even have roots…you know?

Over the past 18 months, I’ve gotten multiple rounds of logos done and just knew that they still weren’t “it”. It didn’t feel like it was supposed to. Looking at the logo didn’t carry the weight of what I’ve built this brand to be and want it to eventually represent.

Last month though we made it! Pause for applause because it’s been on my to-do list for what feels like forever.

ROOTS has a new logo that can be seen across my website and will soon be in all other virtual and physical spaces we operate in as well as on some merch. I love it. It feels root-y and muscle fiber-y and strong.

The branding update comes with a renewed sense of identify, confidence, and strength behind my vision for ROOTS. I can feel it leading my commitment into more courses, workshops and mentorship programs, more books, and more teaching. I might even start a YouTube channel or a podcast, who knows.

At the end of the day, ROOTS is here to stay and ever growing. We hope you’ll keep growing with us.
